Rialto police shot and wounded a man early Monday morning following reports of a disturbance in the area, according to authorities.
The shooting took place around 1:30 a.m. in the 1700 block of North Sycamore Avenue after police received a 911 call from someone reporting their family member, David Gonzales, 53, of Rialto, was acting erratically, according to police.
Officers found Gonzales inside a truck and when they approached, he used the truck to ram into a police vehicle, shoving it into a house leading to a natural gas line to leak.
Officers shot at Gonzales and struck him at least once, officials said. Paramedics took Gonzales to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
A pickup truck was at the scene with bullet holes in the windshield.
The Rialto Fire Department fixed the leaking gas line, and the Rialto building department will inspect the property for residence safety.
Investigators from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department were called to conduct an independent investigation.
