Four firefighters working to help a motorist who spun out on the rain-slicked 15 Freeway were hit by a second vehicle and perhaps a third Thursday morning, officials said, with two taken to the hospital and the other two treated at the scene and released.
By early afternoon, Ontario city officials said, the two hospitalized firefighters were released. “The original crash was reported at 9:31 a.m., and at 9:44 a.m. we got reports of the (second) crash,” CHP Officer Marcelo Llerana said.
Four Ontario Fire Department firefighters were tending to at least one person in the spun-out vehicle on the northbound 15 Freeway approaching the 10 Freeway in Ontario, said Battalion Chief Mike Gerken, when the second crash happened. Two vehicles plowed into the area where the firefighters were working.
