A crash between a pickup truck and a bicycle in Beaumont left one man dead and another arrested on suspicion of murder on Sunday evening.
The California Highway Patrol said in a statement that Dale Ramquist, 60, Banning, was riding his bike east in a paved bike lane on Oak Valley Parkway, just east of Palmer Avenue at approximately 5:50 p.m., when Kyle Lee Anson, a 25-year-old Beaumont resident, was driving his Ford F-150 in the same direction on the same street.
“Due to Anson’s level of intoxication, he drifted to the right, and crashed into Ramquist on his bicycle,” the CHP said. “Ramquist was ejected from his bicycle and sustained fatal injuries.”
Officials said Anson left the scene after the crash, but a witness called authorities. The Beaumont Police Department, the CHP and Cal Fire units responded to the scene.
The CHP said Anson returned to the site of the crash at around 7:20 p.m., accepted responsibility for the crash and was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run, driving under the influence and murder.
Anyone with additional information can contact Officer Darren Meyer with CHP at 951-769-2000.
