A Rialto man was arrested Monday after the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said he drove away from a deputy and ran a red light in Highland, killing a San Bernardino man.
The sheriff’s department said Frankie Ybarra, 42, was pulled over by a deputy near Victoria Avenue and Mirada Road at around 4:50 a.m.
Officials said Ybarra drove off as a deputy approached the vehicle. He then ran a red light at Victoria and Highland Avenues and crashed into a vehicle driven by 62-year-old Elmer Hull, the Sheriff’s Department said.
Hull died as a result of the crash, the department said.
“Ybarra ran from the collision and was apprehended a short time later,” sheriff’s officials said in a media statement.
Officials did not immediately say why Ybarra was initially pulled over, or what charge or charges he may now face.
Anyone with additional information regarding the incident can contact the Sheriff’s Department at 909-387-3545. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call WeTip at 1-800-782-7463.
