A bicyclist was killed in a traffic collision in Claremont on Saturday, Nov. 3 in which police said the driver of a car intentionally struck the woman.
Following the crash, the driver of the car, Sandra Wicksted, 61, of Claremont was arrested on suspicion of murder, Claremont police Lt. Eric Huizar said in a statement
Claremont police responded to the scene of the crash at the 1900 block of Mills Avenue at about 11:30 a.m., Huizar said.
The bicyclist, Leslie Pray, 54, of Claremont was pronounced dead at the scene.
Huizar said Pray was biking north along Mills Avenue near Radcliffe Drive inside a bike lane when the driver allegedly struck her intentionally.
The motive was not immediately known, but Huizar said evidence suggests it was intentional.
“The driver’s driving prior to the incident suggested that she had intent to strike the bicyclist,” Huizar said.
The driver of the car, a green 1996 Mercury Tracer station wagon, was injured during the crash and transported to a local hospital, Huizar said.
As officers investigated the crash, Mills Avenue between Baseline Road and Chaparral Drive was closed to drivers.
Wicksted was being held on $2 million bail.
Huizar said there are no known witnesses to the actual collision.
Police are seeking witnesses to the suspect’s driving behavior before the crash and asked anyone with information to call 909-399-5411.
