The driver under investigation in the crash that killed four young Riverside men last week in Jurupa Valley remained hospitalized Tuesday, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities said the driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the late-night crash at Van Buren Boulevard and 56th Street. Daniel Smith, 20,  Marco Aguilar, 23, Clinton Jellsey, 25, and Nicholas Cahill, 20, all friends, died at the scene.

On Oct. 23, investigators said, the driver was heading north on Van Buren when he lost control while trying to turn left onto 56th. The car instead entered the southbound lanes, where it collided with the car containing the four men. Two other vehicles were damaged while trying to avoid the collision.
