A man, a woman and a teenager suspected of robbing a Norco store and leading sheriff’s deputies on a pursuit into Ontario were behind bars on Thursday.
Autumn Symone Smith, 20, of Fontana, Drashawn Marquez Stewart, 21, of San Bernardino, and a boy whose name was withheld because he’s underage were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of robbery, conspiracy and felony evading. Stewart was additionally arrested on suspiction of illegal possession of a firearm.
Sheriff’s officials allege Stewart and the teen went into the retail outlet in the 1100 block of Hamner Avenue at about 2:20 p.m., and Stewart allegedly brandished a pistol at employees, one of whom he manhandled, taking items from the location and then running to a vehicle parked in front.
The trio sped away from the location as the victims called 911, authorities say, with a deputy spotting the alleged getaway car on northbound Interstate 15 and initiated a pursuit.
The chase covered roughly 10 miles, until the suspects reached Philadelphia Street and Vineyard Avenue in Ontario, where they surrendered, sheriff’s officials said.
No one was injured.
According to court records, Stewart has a prior misdemeanor conviction for carrying a loaded handgun without a permit in public, for which he is still on probation.
