Pedestrian dead after traffic collision in Rancho Cucamonga

A man died in Rancho Cucamonga early Tuesday after he was hit by a truck while crossing a street.

The incident happened when Yair Martinez-Garcia, a 21-year-old Ontario resident, crossed the street at approximately 12:24 a.m. on Tuesday, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement. He was crossing 4th Street near Hermosa Avenue outside of a marked crosswalk.

The sheriff’s department said Martinez-Garcia was hit by a truck just west of the intersection, and that the truck tried to avoid hitting him.

Martinez-Garcia was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.
