Detectives continued to search for the driver of an SUV that struck and killed a 14-year-old San Bernardino girl as she walked to school Friday morning, California Highway Patrol officials said on Monday.
“Our investigators … received tips over the weekend and information due to media exposure the case received,” said Officer Brian Alvarez in a statement. “They followed up on multiple leads and inspected several vehicles, which matched the description; unfortunately, the vehicle, nor the driver, have been located as of Monday morning.”
Jade Maldonado, a freshman at Pacific High School, was crossing the street at Glasgow Avenue and Pacific Street just after 7 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28 when a vehicle – described as a tan 2000 to 2004 GMC SUV traveling 40 to 50 mph – struck her and kept on driving, according to the CHP.

Over the weekend, friends, family members, teachers and classmates gathered at the front of Pacific High — less than a mile from where the teenager was struck — for a memorial.
Investigators asked anyone who may have information regarding the incident to contact the CHP at 909-383-4247.
