Bicyclist dead in Ontario after collision with garbage truck

A Rancho Cucamonga bicyclist died in Ontario on Friday afternoon after a collision with a garbage truck, the Ontario Police Department said.

Police said the crash happened at the intersection of Imperial Avenue and Holt Boulevard. The City of Ontario garbage truck made a left turn from Holt Boulevard onto Imperial Avenue when a 40-year-old woman on a bicycle crashed into the side of the truck.

The driver stopped the garbage truck and notified emergency services after the crash, according to police. The woman was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where she died.

Officials said the crash is under investigation, but drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors.

The woman will be identified by the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office after next-of-kin have been notified, police said.

Police asked anyone with information about the crash to call the Ontario Police Department at 909-986-6711 or Officer Jonathan Higgins at 909-408-1928.
