Two people were killed in a Wednesday morning crash that shut down several lanes of the eastbound 10 Freeway near the 215 Freeway close to San Bernardino, California Highway Patrol officials said.
Just before 7 a.m., the driver of a work truck lost control and struck the railing, which sent the vehicle into a tractor-trailer, said CHP Officer Brian Alvarez.

“The (work) truck went back out of control to the left, hit the railing and went over the railing and into the riverbed,” Alvarez said.
It then burst into flames, and both the driver and passenger were killed.
In that section of the freeway there is a small gap between the east- and westbound lanes of the 10 Freeway as it goes over the Santa Ana river.
When the truck went over the railing, debris from the vehicle was thrown into the westbound lanes and a piece of wood struck the windshield of a vehicle, Alvarez said.
There was some damage done to the bridge, and authorities were called to the scene to check the integrity of it, he said.
Traffic on the eastbound side of the freeway was backed up to Bloomington.
