Riverside police on Saturday afternoon, June 9, arrested a Fontana resident on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, hours after they say he was involved in a collision that killed two people.
Eric Alfredo Figueroa-Reyes, 22, was arrested at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton, Riverside police Officer Ryan Railsback said.
The collision, between a black Nissan Sentra and a Jeep Grand Cherokee, was reported at 3:14 a.m. on Market Street at the 60 Freeway. The preliminary investigation indicated that a female was driving the Sentra north on Market and preparing to turn left to enter the 60 when she was struck by the southbound SUV, driven by a man, Railsback said.
“We don’t know yet who caused the collision,” Railsback said. “There is a signal light that controls the intersection, but we don’t know yet if anyone ran a light.”
Police don’t believe that the woman was impaired, Railsback said, but investigators didn’t yet know about the SUV driver.
The woman, in her 20s, suffered moderate injuries. A male passenger in her car in his 20s died at a hospital, and a second male passenger in his 20s was pronounced dead at the scene. The names of those fatally injured were not immediately made public.
The driver of the SUV fled, Railsback said.
