EASTVALE — Two big rigs and a pickup truck collided on Interstate 15 in Eastvale Tuesday afternoon, seriously injuring occupants of the smaller vehicle.
The wreck was reported at 2:55 p.m. on the northbound I-15, just south of the Pomona (60) Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
One of the tractor-trailers hit the back of the Dodge pickup in the middle of the freeway, then struck another truck hauling a heavy load, according to the CHP, which reported that occupants of the pickup were trapped inside.
Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department personnel extricated the victims, both of whom were taken to Riverside-area hospitals for treatment of major injuries, according to fire officials.
The two truckers were not hurt.
A SigAlert was issued just after 3 p.m. due to two of four lanes being out of service.
By 4 p.m., most of the wreckage had been cleared or moved to the shoulder of the freeway.
The cause of the crash was under investigation.
