What began as a pursuit of a possibly intoxicated driver ended in a deputy-involved shooting Sunday evening, with the suspect dead at the scene, according to Riverside County Sheriff’s Department officials.
Deputies at the sheriff’s Jurupa Valley station got a report of a possible DUI driver near 54th Street and Pedley Road. When the vehicle was located, deputies tried to pull it over but the driver sped off and a chase ensued.
The driver finally stopped in the 9100 block of Bellegrave Avenue near Mission Boulevard where the shooting took place. The suspect died at the scene, a sheriff’s news release said.
There were no injuries to deputies or civilians, and no other suspects in the case, the statement said. No additional details of the shooting were immediately available.
The deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, which is standing department policy. The suspect who was killed was identified by the coroner’s office on Monday as Rudy Molina, 34, of Jurupa Valley.
Investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Central Homicide Unit are handling the investigation.
