A Colton man is in jail after being tracked down by a sheriff’s bloodhound when he ran from a suspected DUI crash in Rancho Cucamonga.
Deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga station responded to a single-vehicle rollover traffic collision shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday in the 5200 block of Day Creek Boulevard, according to a San Bernardino County sheriff’s news release.
Upon arriving at the crash location, deputies learned the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Ryan Rocha, ran from the scene. A deputy and sheriff’s bloodhound, Dare, helped track down Rocha, 28, of Colton.
The dog acquired the driver’s scent from the vehicle into a large field covered with Sage brush. Dare quickly found Rocha about 200 yards south of the crash scene trying to hide in the brush.
As deputies approached, Rocha ran and jumped a nearby wall into the backyard of a home. Deputies surrounded the home and again deployed the K-9. Dare picked up the scent and found Rocha hiding in a trash can in the 5400 block of Dundee Court.
Deputies searched the bin and found Rocha at the bottom, trying to conceal himself with freshly cut grass.
Rocha was arrested and booked into the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on suspicion of obstructing/resisting an officer, hit-and-run, DUI and an unrelated warrant in lieu of $65,000 bail.
