Fatal Jurupa Valley crash was hit-and-run, Sheriff’s Department says

The crash that killed one person and injured two in Jurupa Valley on Saturday was a hit-and-run collision, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday.

Also Tuesday, a relative identified the deceased motorist as Carlos Alvarado. The Coroner’s Office had not announced his name as of late Tuesday afternoon. Alvarado’s mother, Antonia Ayala, said the family planned to hold a vigil at the crash site Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened about 5:15 p.m. at 28th Street and Rubidoux Boulevard. A red Honda Civic traveling south on Rubidoux struck the rear driver’s side of a southbound black Honda Civic, a news release said. The black Honda spun, crossed the northbound lanes and struck a concrete barrier.

The driver of the black Honda was ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene, the release said. There was no word on the hit-and-run suspect.
