A 35-year-old pregnant woman from Ontario and her unborn fetus died Saturday in a four-vehicle crash on the 71 Freeway in Chino Hills, authorities said.
The woman was traveling southbound in a Hyundai sedan at about 10 a.m. when traffic backed up as the lanes merged near Butterfield Ranch Road, said California Highway Patrol Sgt. Ronald Burch.
As traffic slowed, a BMW rear-ended the Hyundai, pushing it into the back of a pickup truck, which then rear-ended a tanker truck carrying milk, Burch said.
Authorities used the “Jaws of Life” to extricate the woman, who was pronounced dead at a hospital, authorities said. Her name was not released Saturday.
Burch said the driver of the pickup truck was treated for minor injuries.
