Diamond Bar man dies in crash down steep Mount Wilson embankment

A 64-year-old Diamond Bar man was killed Tuesday night when the vehicle he was driving went off the road and then down a steep embankment in the Mount Wilson area near Altadena, authorities said.

Coroner’s spokesman Ed Winter said paramedics pronounced George William JR McCreary dead at the scene.

The crash was reported at 8:15 p.m. on Mount Wilson Red Box Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The Ford the man was driving was southbound on Mount Wilson Red Box Road when, for unknown reasons, it veered to the right and traveled onto a raised curb and into a metal guardrail, then down a steep embankment, slamming into several large trees, according to the CHP.

The vehicle eventually came to a rest on its right side against a large tree.
