A driver suffered minor injuries when her sport utility vehicle crashed into a power pole and sheared it early Wednesday morning in San Dimas.

Deputies heading to an unrelated call saw the solo crash on Arrow Highway and Walnut Avenue around 4 a.m.

The 20-year-old Covina woman told deputies she fell asleep while driving westbound on Arrow Highway, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Elisabeth Sachs.

The 2002 Chevrolet Suburban struck a power pole on the sidewalk. Sachs said the pole was sheared off but didn’t fall on the street because the power lines held it up.

She said paramedics treated the driver at the scene. The woman complained of pain to her abdomen and was taken to a local hospital.

Sachs said nearby businesses lost power. Deputies closed off the westbound lanes of Arrow Highway at Walnut Avenue.
