DIAMOND BAR — A San Pedro man killed when the box truck he was driving crashed and flipped on an off-ramp on the Pomona (60) Freeway in Diamond Bar was publicly identified Saturday.
He was Carlos Alvarado Garcia, 28, the coroner’s office said.
The crash occurred about 5:40 a.m. Friday on the Grand Avenue off-ramp, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The victim now identified as Alvarado Garcia was driving a yellow 2006 Hino two-axle truck east on the freeway, approaching the off-ramp when the vehicle drifted to the right, entered the gore point and struck a steel guardrail.
The truck then continued onto the off-ramp, tipped onto its right side and slid up the ramp until hitting a large steel freeway sign post, according to the CHP.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Crash debris struck a passing 2011 Hyundai Sonata whose 58-year-old driver was not injured.
About a minute later, a 57-year-old Fullerton man driving a 2011 Ford F150 pickup truck didn’t see the crashed truck and collided with it. He was not injured.
