A man and woman fleeing from a sheriff’s deputy crashed their vehicle into a tree in front of the San Bernardino County sheriff’s parking lot early Friday morning.
Authorities arrested Andrew Redmond, 35, of San Bernardino and Christina Alva, 35, of Rialto on suspicion of felony evading, a sheriff’s statement says.
Just before 1:30 a.m., Deputy Jonathan Cavender was in the area of Del Rosa and Highland avenues when he tried to pull over a GMC Yukon for Vehicle Code violations, officials said. However, the driver, later identified as Redmond, sped away.
Redmond drove erratically, sometimes on the wrong side of the road, for nearly four miles until he lost control and crashed into the tree in front of the sheriff’s headquarters at 655 E. 3rd St., officials said.
Even after the crash, sheriff’s officials said Redmond tried to drive off but was blocked in by pursuing deputies.
Authorities learned Richmond was on post-release supervision for felony resisting a police officer as well as an outstanding warrant for larceny, the statement says. Alva has a warrant for her arrest in connection to a drug-possession case.
The pair was booked into West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.
