DUI suspect slams into Fontana police unit, injuring 2 officers, authorities say

A man Fontana police determined to be impaired was arrested after he slammed into a police vehicle Tuesday night, sending two officers to the hospital.

Around 11:30 p.m., two officers were in a police vehicle heading east on Arrow Boulevard near Cypress Avenue when authorities say a driver in a northbound 2015 silver Honda Civic ran a stop sign and struck the vehicle.

The officers were taken to a hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries and then released.

The driver of the Honda, identified as Christopher Hernandez, 30, was not hurt, according to a police press release.

Following several tests, officers arrested Hernandez on suspicion of driving under the influence causing injury and he was booked into West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.
