A Highland mother was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence when a deputy watched her crash her car with her three small children inside, into a parked vehicle Saturday night, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials said Monday.
Around 8 p.m., Saturday, Deputy Michael Kassis was handling a call in the 7000 block of Olive Street when he watched a 2003 Nissan crash into a parked car, according to a sheriff’s press release.
Kassis rushed over and inside found the driver, later identified as Lucrettia Collins, 25, inside the vehicle along with her children, ages 1,2 and 7, and another woman, officials said.
“One of the juveniles received visible minor injuries and all three were transported to the hospital,” the statement said. “Both vehicles sustained major damage.”
Through an investigation, deputies determined Collins was under the influence and arrested her. It wasn’t clear if the woman with her was also impaired.
She was booked into the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino where she is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail. Authorities say they will be pursuing additional charges of child endangerment.
Investigators ask anyone with information to call the Highland station at 909-425-9793.
