The motorist who was killed Monday in a collision with a wrong-way driver on the 210 Freeway in Claremont was identified Thursday, Jan. 25, as Daniel Castillo, 69, of Fontana.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office confirmed Castillo’s name Thursday after previously releasing his age and hometown.
Castillo was one of four other drivers who crashed, the California Highway Patrol said, when Nicole Thibault, 28, of Santa Clarita, drove west in the eastbound lanes.
Her trip started in San Bernardino after she carjacked a Ford F-150 pickup, authorities said. Thibault dropped off a 2-year-old boy who had been in the car. She then entered the freeway and drove in the center median, sometimes at speeds greater than 100 mph, before crashing east of Mills Avenue, the CHP said.
Thibault was among the injured.
The other drivers injured were Valvertha Ferguson, 58, of Fontana, who suffered a broken thumb; and Narinder Dhillon, 58, of Upland, who had a complaint of pain. A fifth driver, Emily Castillo, 21, of Baldwin Park, was not reported injured.
