A minor injury traffic collision in a Rancho Cucamonga parking lot early Sunday prompted the collision victim to brandish a firearm and punch the other driver, knocking him unconscious, according to a San Bernardino County sheriff’s news release.
A deputy was called out about 2:50 a.m to the parking lot of a 7-Eleven in the 9600 block of Milliken Avenue, where the victim had rear-ended a vehicle driven by Adrian Bernard Duncan, 26, of Compton, according to the release and Deputy Wendy Page.
An argument ensued; Page said some details of what happened are still under investigation.
The victim was treated at the scene and is doing well, Page said.
The deputy who responded found a concealed firearm in Duncan’s waistband and a loaded rifle with a high-capacity magazine in his vehicle, the release said.
Duncan was arrested on suspicion of assault with great bodily injury and taken to West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga. He was released Monday on $100,000 bail, according to jail records.
He also was booked for an outstanding warrant, the release said. Jail and court records show it was related to a 2013 case in which Duncan pleaded no contest to carrying a concealed weapon in his vehicle.
Another recent instance of someone punching someone else in a confrontation after a minor car crash in San Bernardino County ended tragically. Off-duty sheriff’s Deputy Larry Falce was assaulted by someone who’d rear-ended him on New Year’s Eve morning, authorities said. He too was knocked unconscious — but never woke up. Falce was taken off life support two days later, and his funeral will be Tuesday. The suspect has pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder.
