The victim of a fiery Rancho Cucamonga crash earlier this month has been identified as an 18-year-old from that city, coroner’s officials said.

Shortly after 11 p.m. Dec. 13, Zaki Sharifi was driving a 2016 Hyundai Elantra south on Day Creek Boulevard approaching Church Street – just north of the Victoria Gardens shopping center – when he lost control and hit a traffic signal pole, according to San Bernardino County sheriff’s and coroner’s officials in separate news release.

The vehicle spun and came to rest by a bus bench, according to the sheriff’s release.

Sharifi was ejected from the vehicle, according to a coroner’s news release. The Sheriff’s Department has said the engine was ripped from the vehicle and landed about 230 feet away.
