Pedestrian killed in Pomona crash

POMONA >> A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle Saturday, Dec. 16, near Garey Avenue and Mission Boulevard, Pomona police said.

The man was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died, a Pomona police news release said. His name was not released, pending notification of his next of kin.

The incident was reported about 7 p.m., the release said.  Pomona police Lt. Jaime Gutierrez said the pedestrian was attempting to cross the street about a block south of a crosswalk when he was struck. A photo from the scene showed the car windshield was shattered.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators, the release said.  Gutierrez said drugs and alcohol were not a factor.

The crash is being investigated by Pomona police’s Major Accident Investigation Team, the release said. Anyone with information of the incident is asked to call either 909-802-774 or 909-620-2048.
