Driver dies in fiery traffic signal crash in Rancho Cucamonga

A male driver crashed into a traffic signal pole and the vehicle burst into flames, killing the driver in Rancho Cucamonga late Wednesday, Dec. 13, according to a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s news release.

The incident was reported at 11:09 p.m. The driver in a 2016 Hyundai Elantra was southbound on Day Creek Boulevard and for an unknown reason the vehicle drifted to the right and hit the pole at Church Street.

The vehicle spun counterclockwise before coming to rest by a bus bench. The engine was torn from the engine compartment and landed on the road about 230 feet from the vehicle.

The driver was not immediately identified by name.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information is asked to contact the Rancho Cucamonga sheriff’s station at 909-477-2800.
