Two men have been arrested after Rialto and Fontana police pursued an allegedly stolen vehicle. The chase began in Rialto and ended in a crash in Fontana on Friday morning, officials said.
Rialto police began following the vehicle around 9:45 a.m., Rialto police Lt. Paul Stella said. The driver, Andrew Vera, 27, of Perris, refused to stop and led an officer on a pursuit through Rialto and west into Fontana, according to Stella and Sgt. Joe Viola.
Vera reportedly drove on the wrong side of Merrill Avenue at a high rate of speed and he ran through red lights, according to initial police reports.
The fleeing vehicle crashed into another vehicle when the stolen vehicle ran a red light at Merrill and Sierra avenues near Chaffey College, Stella said.
The occupants of the other vehicle were treated at the scene and released, Viola said.
There were no students on campus due to the holiday, Viola said.
Vera and his passenger, Daniel Resendez, 25, of Riverside, ran from the stolen vehicle but were later found and arrested, police said.
Vera and Resendez were arrested on suspicion of receiving stolen property and felony pursuit, Viola said.
Additionally, Vera was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, Viola said.
