Authorities are looking for a man who allegedly tried to assault an off-duty California Highway Patrol officer, who fired two shots at him in Victorville before the suspect fled, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials said Wednesday.
The incident happened Tuesday afternoon about 4:30 p.m. when the CHP officer had exited the 15 Freeway at Mojave Drive, a sheriff’s news release said. The officer stopped for a stop sign and was rear-ended by a man driving a green Chevrolet TrailBlazer. The suspect fled.
The officer, who had his child in his vehicle, followed the suspect into the Home Depot parking lot at Roy Rogers Drive and Amargosa Road, the release said. The victim parked his vehicle and got out of his car to exchange information, expecting the suspect to do the same.
But the suspect appeared to be attempting to hit the officer with his vehicle, the release said. The officer, fearing for his safety and his child’s, fired two shots at the suspect, who fled and is still at large.
