LONG BEACH >> A man who led law enforcement on a high-speed chase from Colton to Long Beach on Tuesday surrendered after the reported stolen car he was driving appeared to run out of gas.

The chase began in Colton. The California Highway Patrol took over the chase around 10:45 p.m. on the westbound 10 Freeway at Via Verde near West Covina, according to a CHP dispatcher.

Colton police communicated to the CHP that the white 1999 Ford Taurus the suspect was driving had been reported stolen, the dispatcher said.

The driver exceeded speeds of 100 mph and ran red lights, traveling through Santa Fe Springs, Lakewood and Long Beach, where the car was believed to have been stolen from, according to news reports.

The Ford slowed to a roll in Long Beach around 11:15 p.m. before coming to a full stop. The driver was seen throwing the keys out of the driver’s window before he got out and surrendered.
