CANYON LAKE — Drugs appear to be a factor in a five-vehicle collision that killed one person, seriously injured another and left two others with minor injuries at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office reported Friday night.

Two drivers were trapped in their vehicles and needed to be rescued by Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire personnel, a sheriff’s report said. The crash happened at Railroad Canyon and Canyon Lake Drive South, the report said.

“The preliminary investigation revealed a vehicle was driving at a high rate of speed westbound on Railroad Canyon. The driver did not slow down and struck several vehicles  … stopped for the red light at the intersection,” the sheriff’s report said.

The name of the person who died hasn’t yet been released.
