More than 2,000 Fontana homes and businesses were without power after a vehicle hit a power pole at Jurupa and Sierra avenues causing a transformer to explode Friday morning, according to police officials.
Just before 9 a.m. a vehicle lost control, struck a fire hydrant and then the power pole knocking the pole over, according to Fontana police officials. Paramedics took the driver and the passenger to a nearby hospital for minor injuries and complaints of pain.
Southern California Edison outage maps initially indicated that 2,169 customers were without power in the area of the crash. As of noon, power was restored to all all but 11 homes or businesses.
Fontana police are investigating the crash, but officials say they do not believe alcohol was a factor.
