The tow truck driver killed Friday after he was struck by an alleged drunken driver has been identified as a 28-year-old Wildomar resident.
The Riverside County Sheriff/Coroner’s office has identified the victim as Kyle Crull. He was assisting two people whose vehicle became disabled on a southbound 15 Freeway off ramp at Temecula Parkway at about 11:35 pm., according to a California Highway Patrol report.
He was pronounced dead early Saturday at Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar.
Crull worked for DJ’s Towing in Temecula. There will be a procession of tow trucks beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, from Menifee to Temecula, where a celebration of life gathering is planned for family and friends, according to a flyer posted by the tow company.
A GoFundMe to benefit Crull’s daughter has raised more than $9,500 as of Wednesday. A statement included with the fundraising post noted, “Kyle loved his daughter and talked about her constantly. She was everything to him and we need to make sure she is taken care of.”
Danika Lee McGetrick, who turned 19 the day before the collision, was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence, causing injury or death.
She was booked at the Cois M. Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta and released the next day after posting $75,000 bail, according to jail records.
McGetrick is due in court Dec. 15. As of Tuesday, the CHP had not submitted an investigative report for county District Attorney’s Office for review.
