Colton police arrested an 18-year-old Moreno Valley driver Tuesday, Sept. 26, on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and hit and run in a crash that killed a motorcyclist in Reche Canyon on Friday, Sept. 22, according to a police news release.
Colton police identified the driver as Ulysses Carbajal Carranza and found him at his home.
He remains in custody at the sheriff’s Central Detention Center in San Bernardino was booked at San Bernardino County Jail. Bail is set at $100,000, according to court records.
Police responded to the crash at 5:06 p.m. Friday at Reche Canyon and Scotch Lane.
The motorcyclist, identified as Steven Owen Jarrell, 59, of Perris, was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the vehicle fled on foot into the canyon. San Bernardino County sheriff’s aviation and sheriff’s and police K-9 teams from Colton police and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department searched and were unable to find the driver.
