A 30-year-old Colton man has been identified as the person killed in a six-vehicle chain-reaction collision on the westbound 210 Freeway in Rancho Cucamonga on Monday morning, according to a California Highway Patrol news release.
Sergio Uriarte was driving the fourth of six vehicles on the freeway approaching Day Creek Boulevard and was not wearing a seat belt in the 10:50 a.m. incident, the news release stated.
Once Uriate’s 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe was struck by two other vehicles, his SUV spun out of control across traffic lanes, collided with a 1999 Honda Accord, the fifth involved vehicle and which was stopped in traffic.
He was thrown into the rear compartment of the SUV and suffered blunt force trauma to his head and pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash sequence began when an Alta Loma motorist driving a 2017 Dodge 5500 utility truck was driving in the fast lane at 55 mph and collided with the rear of a second vehicle, which was slowing for traffic and then pushed into the third vehicle.
The sixth vehicle was damaged by debris from the other vehicles.
One driver was taken by ambulance to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment of facial trauma and contusions.
Officers with the CHP’s Rancho Cucamonga station are handling the accident investigation.
