A Rialto man is in jail on suspicion of causing a hit-and-run crash Friday that killed one pedestrian and left another in grave condition, the Rialto police said.
Desmond Ashley, 38, was arrested early Saturday on suspicion of hit-and-run that caused death or injury, according to jail records. He is being housed at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga. Bail is set at $100,000.
Ashley’s vehicle was heading east on Foothill Boulevard near Cedar Avenue when it struck two women about 8:30 p.m. Friday, a Rialto police news release said. That intersection contains shopping centers that include a Food 4 Less, a Walgreens and a Home Depot.
Both victims were taken to the hospital, where one died and the other was reported to be in grave condition as of Saturday morning, the release said. An update on her condition Sunday was not immediately available.
The vehicle didn’t stop, according to the release.
Police found the vehicle at a nearby apartment complex and arrested Ashley at a motel in Fontana, the release said.
Rialto police are asking anyone who has information about this incident to call them at 909-421-4981.
