Car and train collision interrupts Metrolink service briefly Friday night

BALDWIN PARK — A Metrolink train clipped an automobile here shortly before 7:30 p.m. Friday night, causing an interruption of westbound train traffic for about two hours, said Sgt. Andy Velebil.

The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, but the “vehicle obviously should not have been on the track as a train approached,” Velebil said.

Passengers in the car were not injured. Two passengers in the train complained of pain and were taken to a local hospital, he said.

And the car was still drivable, he added.

The train was slowing down as it approached the downtown station when the collusion occurred, Velebil said.
