DIAMOND BAR >> A 19-year-old man may have been drinking alcohol his car drifted off the 60 Freeway in Diamond Bar today and crashed into a tree, killing him, the California Highway Patrol said.

No name or hometown was released immediately.

The crash was reported at 4:18 a.m. on the westbound Pomona Freeway south of the Diamond Bar Boulevard onramp, said California Highway Patrol Officer Elizabeth Kravig.

The motorist was driving a 2005 Honda Civic westbound on the West 60/South 57 combination at unknown speed when he allowed the car to drift to the right, where it went across the Diamond Bar Boulevard onramp lane, the CHP reported.

The Honda smashed into a tree.

The driver was the only person in his car, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, Kravig said. Alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The CHP’s Baldwin Park office asked anyone who saw the crash to call them at 626-338-1164.
