INDUSTRY — The coroner’s office today released the name of a pedestrian struck and killed by at least one vehicle during a six-vehicle pre-dawn crash on the 605 Freeway in Industry.
He was Juan Hernandez, 20, of Pomona, coroner’s Lt. Larry Dietz reported.
It was not clear in California Highway Patrol reports why the man was on the freeway. He was hit by at least one vehicle a little before 2 a.m. Sunday on the southbound 605 near the Rose Hills Road onramp. One of the vehicles involved was a 2014 Chevrolet Suburban.
Paramedics rushed four people to area hospitals, said a Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatcher. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:06 a.m.
A 21-year-old man driving a 1970 Datsun 240Z was rushed to Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center with major injuries, as was his passenger, a 19-year- old woman who suffered moderate injuries, the CHP reported.
A 65-year-old man driving 1998 Toyota Camry suffered minor injuries and his passenger, a 59-year-old woman, suffered moderate injuries. They were both taken to Beverly Hospital in Montebello.
The CHP did not immediately explain how the crash developed and what role each of the six vehicles played. It urged anyone who saw the accident to call the agency at (323) 982-4900.
