2 killed when wrong-way driver slams into vehicle on I-5 freeway in Fullerton

FULLERTON — Two people were killed early Monday when a wrong-way driver slammed into another vehicle on the I-5 freeway, authorities said.

The crash was reported around 3:20 a.m. on the freeway north of the 91, said California Highway Patrol Officer Monica Posada.

A Honda sedan had been driving northbound in southbound lanes at about 100 mph before crashing into an SUV, the CHP reported.

The drivers of both vehicles were killed and the SUV burst into flames, according to the CHP. Killed were a man in his mid-20s who was driving the car, and a man in his 50s, who was driving the SUV, the CHP reported.

Information regarding whether alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash were not immediately available.

The crash remains under investigation.
