UPLAND >> An Upland High School senior who died in a traffic crash before completing her coursework will be awarded a diploma, the school’s principal said.

Jamaari Adams, 17, died when the car she was driving hit a tree on 16th Street near Quarry Avenue about 1:30 a.m. Thursday, Upland police said. Final exams had not been completed when Adams died.

Principal Pam Salgado said Monday it was an easy decision to award the diploma posthumously.

“I think the loss of a student is one of the most difficult things a school can go through. Our hearts go out to support the family,” Salgado said.

The graduation ceremony is Thursday. School officials are discussing with the family options for how to remember Adams at the ceremony, Salgado said.

The school announced Adams’ death to students and staff Thursday and made counselors available, Salgado said.

A GoFundMe account was created to raise money for Adams’ funeral.
