RANCHO CUCAMONGA >> An Oregon woman accused of being impaired when she crashed into a truck killing a 60-year-old Rancho Cucamonga man Sunday is expected to be in court Tuesday, records show.
Herendira Diaz De La Vega, 24, was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated early Sunday morning following the crash on Hellman Avenue near Eighth Street, according to a San Bernardino County sheriff’s news release.
The force of the crash tore open the cab of a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado and threw Abel Rivera from the vehicle. Rivera was pronounced dead at the scene.
Diaz De La Vega was driving a 2017 Nissan Maxima south on Hellman Avenue, approaching the intersection of Eighth Street, officials said. She reportedly ran through a stop sign and slammed into the truck traveling east on Eighth Street. The truck had stopped at the intersection and was driving through when the Nissan collided with the driver’s side of the vehicle, according to authorities.
Diaz De La Vega was arrested and booked at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.
