Several dozen arrested in Memorial Day DUI patrols throughout Inland area

Police in several Inland Empire cities were out in force looking for impaired drivers over the Memorial Day weekend.

Throughout San Bernardino County California Highway Patrol officers arrested 82 people suspected of driving under the influence. Fourteen of those arrests were in the city of San Bernardino.

On Friday night traffic on San Bernardino’s west side was slightly congested while police held a DUI checkpoint on an eastbound stretch of Fifth Street at Medical Center Drive.

Out of the 752 vehicles screened one motorist was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and 39 other drivers were either cited or arrested for operating a vehicle unlicensed, according to a police news release. Twenty-four additional citations were issued for various infractions.

San Bernardino police also held a saturation patrol that netted one arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence.

Rialto investigated two DUI related crashes over the holiday weekend. Both drivers were arrested in those cases.

In Riverside County, Moreno Valley deputies held a checkpoint Friday at Lasselle Street and Rojo Tierra where they arrested two drivers for suspicion of driving under the influence. Saturday Lake Elsinore police held a checkpoint and out of the 496 vehicles that passed through authorities conducted seven field sobriety tests arresting a Corona man for suspicion of DUI.

Also on Saturday Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies arrested three drivers for suspicion of DUI in the city of Norco,.

A Barstow woman was killed in Norco Monday night when she was reportedly struck by a Jurupa Valley woman who was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter, felony DUI and other charges.

Sheriff’s deputies patrolled the Colorado River along the California Nevada border arresting 11 suspected of boating under the influence and issued 103 citations for various boating law violations.

Drivers caught driving impaired can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to include jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspension and other expenses that can exceed $10,000 not to mention the embarrassment when friends and family find out, according to authorities.
