CHINO >> At least one person was killed early Saturday in a fiery crash between a semi-truck and another vehicle on the eastbound 60 Freeway in Chino, according to initial reports.
The incident, described as a “fatal,” was reported a little before 2 a.m. on the 60 near the Mountain Avenue off-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Both the vehicle and semi-truck were on fire, the log says.
The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office reported that the semi-truck was traveling in the No. 2 lane and drifted toward the shoulder, where it hit multiple guardrail posts and crashed into the cement wall of the Mountain Avenue bridge.
The driver was ejected from the vehicle, according to a coroner’s news release.
Paramedics responded and the driver was taken to a hospital, where he died.
According to the CHP, the semi-truck looked as though it might fall from the overpass onto the street below, the log says. The second vehicle was already off the freeway, described as being at the bottom of the off-ramp.
A SigAlert was issued. The No. 3 and 4 lanes of the freeway were closed, as was Mountain Avenue under the freeway, according to the log.
