RANCHO CUCAMONGA >> Five Riverside County boys were arrested Friday after leading authorities in a high speed chase in a stolen car.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m. an automatic license plate reader in Rancho Cucamonga detected a Volvo reported stolen out of Desert Hot Springs, according to a San Bernardino County sheriff’s news release. Deputies quickly found the car and were in the process of making a traffic stop when the driver sped away.

The driver reached speeds in excess of 80 mph, causing concern for public safety, the dispatch states.

A PIT maneuver was unsuccessfully attempted, but the driver crashed into a center median near the intersection of Haven Avenue and Arrow Route, causing the car to flip. Five boys, a 17-year-old from Perris, two 16- and two 15-year-olds from Moreno Valley were extricated from the wrecked car, checked out by medical personnel and arrested, deputies said.

They were all booked into San Bernardino Juvenile Hall for possession of a stolen vehicle and felony evasion.

Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 909-477-2800.
