Upland police increase DUI enforcement for Cinco de Mayo weekend

Last Updated on May 4, 2017 by CCAR Staff

UPLAND >> Upland police will be looking for impaired drivers as revelers celebrate Cinco de Mayo.

“Officers from the Upland Police Department’s DUI Enforcement Team will be deploying this weekend to stop and arrest alcohol- and drug-impaired drivers,” according to an Upland Police Department press release.

The additional patrols will deploy between 7 p.m. Friday and 3 a.m. Saturday in areas with where there are a high occurrence of DUI-related collisions or arrests, officials said.

Forty people were killed in impaired-driving crashes across the nation during the Cinco de Mayo holiday period in 2015.

Authorities advise people to find a designated driver.

Funding for this DUI operation is provided to Upland Police Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
