POMONA >> Pomona police plan to set up a DUI checkpoint somewhere in the city Friday and beef up patrols looking for impaired drivers.
The checkpoint — to operate between 9 p.m. Friday and 3 a.m. Saturday — coincides with Cinco de Mayo.
While the location of the checkpoint was not included in a Pomona Police Department news release, they’re often set up in areas based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests, affording the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence, the news release says.
Officers there and those patrolling the city that night will look for signs of impairment from alcohol, drugs and even prescription drugs. The hours of the DUI saturation patrols are 7 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday.
