RANCHO CUCAMONGA >> The recent chilly and rainy weather may have helped prevent a tragedy when a suspected drunken driver crashed into the empty outdoor patio of the recently-opened Rock & Brews restaurant late Sunday night.
Most patrons were inside when the crash took place around 10 p.m. Sunday, and according to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Lt. Frank Montanez, “the manager said most nights the patio is filled with people sitting around the fire pits.”
The restaurant and bar — co-owned by Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, members of the rock band Kiss — stay open until 2 a.m. every day and were open at the time of the crash.
David Nguyen, 24, allegedly lost control sending the vehicle on top of a row of planters, officials said. According to officials, it took two tow trucks to remove the vehicle because it was high-centered on the large planters.
Rock & Brews opened in December across from Victoria Gardens at the Foothill Crossing shopping center on Foothill Boulevard.
Nguyen was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
