CAJON PASS >> A Rancho Cucamonga man was identified as the person killed in a crash in the Cajon Pass over the weekend.

Don Van Nguyen, 38, was traveling south of the 15 Freeway south of Oak Hill Road when his car became disabled, according to a California Highway Patrol news release.

Nguyen’s 2002 Honda was still in the lanes of traffic when he turned on his vehicle’s emergency lights. A short time later, the Honda was struck by a southbound Subaru, officials said.

The impact ruptured the Honda’s gas tank, sparking a fire, according to the San Bernardino County Coroner’s website.

The driver of the Subaru managed to pull Nguyen from the burning Honda before emergency crews arrived.

Paramedics took Nguyen to a hospital where he later died.

It wasn’t clear if the driver of the Subaru was cited.

Anyone with additional information can call the San Bernardino CHP Area office at 909-383-4247.
